TAPE AIDS FOR THE BLIND

Background:

"Tape Aids for the Blind" has been in existence for over 40 years ad the purpose of its establishment is to introduce and provide recreational and educational books and magazines on tape for the blind and print-handicapped people, free of charge, through their free library service.

Project Description:

This national educational outreach programme is based on the provision of additional Educational Tape Aids. The aim is to provide access top knowledge and information to the blind and print-handicapped people in all 11 official languages of South Africa. Through the AGRP Programme, the Government of Japan made funds available to implement this project.

DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES MOHAU CHILDREN'S CARE CENTRE

Background:

Kerux Motivation Educational Trust was established in 1987 and the purpose behind its establishment lies in the need for the provision of holistic care intervention for children infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Project Description:

The Government of Japan made funds available for the upgrading and improvement of the Diana, Princess of Wales Mohau Children's Care Centre.

The funds were utilised for the following purposes:

This is the second time that the Government of Japan offers financial assistance to Kerux for the Diana, Princess of Wales Mohau Children's Care Centre. In 1997, funds were made available for the furniture as well as the renovation of the hospice building, which was previously utilised as nurses accommodation.

SCHOOL FUNDING

The Government of Japan has assisted various schools throughout South Africa over the past few years.

Through the AGRP Programme, large sums of funds have been poured into the education sector and as a result, over 100 schools have been constructed and renovated. Additional classrooms have been built for the schools in need and the provision of educational materials and equipment has also been made available.
