Ceramics Exhibition & Workshop (Mr. Soei Obiya) at the African Window
(National Cultural History Museum), 149 Visagie Street, Pretoria

Workshop: 9h30 - 11h30 Fri 11 October

In 1966, Master Soei OBIYA started his career at the age of 38.
Since then, he has been travelling along the lonely path in the art
of ceramics. Though he has never belonged to any schools or had
any master or apprentice, he regarded the whole universe as his
sole master. He is ever so humble to say, Im content of one out
of a hundred appreciates my work. Critics expressed, Crafted in
the tradition of oriental ceramics. No copying. Simple and
contemporary, yet elegant.
Mr Obiya thinks the most beautiful
is the simplified with no frills. Recently, his styles have been
diversified to more simplified and more dynamic. He says, Adding
technique is far easier than subtracting from what you have
already acquired.
