The Monbusho (Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture, Government of Japan) offers scholarships to foreign students. However, students under the College of Technology Student who study at a Japanese College of technology, and the Senshu-Gakko Student, will study at a Japanese Senshu-Gakko (professional training school).
are offered by both the College of Technology Student and the Senshu-Gakko Student Scholarship programs.
The Senshu-Gakko offers a variety of other courses while the College of Technology Student specialises in Engineering and Mercantile Marine.
Academic backgrounds vary slightly between the two.
Those studying Mercantile Marine as a College of Technology Studentmust have eyesight better than 0.6 (corrected eyesight) and no colour-blindness.
The Senshu-Gakko Student applicant's awards are tenable for 3 years from April 2001 to March 2004.
The College of Technology Student applicant is far more complicated, as the awards are tenable for 4 years from April 2001, to March, 2005, except for those majoring in Mercantile Marine, who are granted four and a half years up to September, 2005.
The Senshu-Gakko Student applicant's term cannot be extended; however, the College of Technology Student applicant's can be extended if the grantee has special reasons to continue to study in a Japanese University (transferred as a junior) after graduation from the college of technology, may have the term of scholarship extended, if he/she has made excellent results.
The extended term is two years at the maximum, and no extension shall be made beyond this period.
The academic examination differs somewhat in that the Senshu-Gakko Student takes an examination in Mathematics and English. College of Technology Student take 2 examinations of Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry.
Senshu-Gakko students who have completed the prescribed course at the Japanese language school will be placed in a Senshu-Gakko into the advanced professional course that follows senior high school education and study the professional subjects for two years.
The College of Technology Student has a five year course which follows junior high school education; however, the grantees of this program will be enrolled into the third-year class of the college of technology and study a professional subject for three years.
Please note that a guarantee of the Senshu-Gakko cannot enter a university or other institute under the Japanese Government (Monbusho) Scholarship after completing the required course.
