The Government of Japan, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme, is extending assistance in the amount of US$ 81.005.00 (approximately R 500,000.00) to Biblionef South Africa located in Pinelands, Western Cape Province for the purchasing of English and Siswati books for 33 schools in Mpumalanga.
The Handover Ceremony of the books will take place at Penny College in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga at 11:00 on Saturday, 12th May 2006. Mr. Shinichi Ito, Minister of Embassy of Japan and Mrs. Jean Williams, Executive Director of Biblionef will attend the Ceremony.
The Biblionef is an international book donating agency with Biblionef South Africa having been established in 1998. Its aim is to commit to provide books to children in areas where there is no reading materials and to combat illiteracies, which is still very much prevalent in South African society. The donated books will be fully utilized to stimulate a reading culture among children in Mpumalanga.
The GGP Programme, through which many communities in South Africa have benefited from, is designed to assist eligible organizations, including Non-Governmental Organizations, Community-Based Organizations, Local Governments, School Governing Bodies, Hospitals, and Clinic etc. It is a specific programme aimed at directly reaching and immediately benefiting disadvantaged communities at a grass roots level.
