Applications for 2009 will be available from this website or from the Embassy of Japan itself in April 2008.

Research Studies
Each applicant must submit three sets of the following documents to the Japanese Embassy by the required date. One set is required to be original documents. The other two sets may be photocopies thereof.
- Application Form, Field of Study and Study Program (Attachment)
- Passport size photographs taken within the past six months
- Certified academic records of each academic year of university attended (issued by the university attended)
- Recommendation from the principal or the advisor of the last university attended
- Recommendation from the present employer (if employed)
- Medical certificate on the prescribed form
- Degree certificate of the university attended (or an attested document certifying that the applicant will graduate from the school by March of the following year, where applicable)
- Abstracts of theses
- Photograph showing applicant's own works of art or a recorded tape of musical performance (only for those majoring in fine arts or music)
Undergraduate / Special Training College and College of Technology Studies:
Each applicant must submit two sets of the following documents to the Japanese Embassy by the required date. One set is required to be original documents. The other two sets may be photocopies thereof.
- Application Form (prescribed forms)
- Application Form (Annex) (prescribed form for those who wish for direct placement)
- Photographs of passport size (should be pasted on the application forms)
- Certified school records for grades 10, 11 and 12
- Letter of recommendation from the principal of the last school attended
- A copy of the Matric Certificate (Or an attested document certifying that the applicant should graduate from the school by March 2008, if applicable)
- Certified copy of qualification for admission to university (if applicable)
- The certificate of enrollment (in case the applicant is enrolled in a university, etc.)
- Medical certificate on the prescribed form
