Japanese Government Scholarships
(Monbukagakusho: MEXT Scholarship)
Monbukagakusho (The Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture, Government of Japan) offers 2 types of scholarships to study at Japanese schools commencing in the Academic Year of 2007:
- Research studies
- Undergraduate studies (Undergraduate, Special Training College, College of Technology)
- Application Forms
The Embassy of Japan is responsible for coordinating this government sponsored programme in South Africa. Application forms for the academic year 2007 – 2008 will be available as of April 2006 (from the Embassy directly or downloaded from the website) and are accessible to all applicants who meet the following criteria:
Research Student Scholarship (post-graduate level)
- Applicant must be a South African/Botswana/Namibian Citizen and under the age of 35 years.
- University Graduates/ Post Graduates - those who will graduate from a university with a degree by March 2007 (April departure) or September 2007 (October departure) may apply.
- The study area must be in the same field as the applicant has studied (or currently studying).
Undergraduate Scholarship
- Applicant must be a South African Citizen
- Applicants must be at least seventeen years and less than twenty-two years of age as of April 1, 2007.
- Applicants must have either completed a twelve year regular course of school education or graduated from a school equivalent to the senior high school in Japan, by March 2007.
