The 35th Leadership Program on Japan

Organized by Institute for International Studies and Training (IIST) with the support of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
The Institute for International Studies and Training (IIST) is pleased to announce that the 35th Leadership Program on Japan for overseas opinion leaders will be held on September 11-16, 2006 in Japan.
Objective:
The Leadership Program on Japan seeks to enhance mutual understanding between Japan and the rest of the world in the global community. Through various activities including lectures, opinion-exchanges and field trips, the participants will be able to deepen their knowledge of Japanese politics, economy, society, culture, etc, so as to develop more accurate views of the current situations in Japan.

The program will include such topics and activities as:
- Opinion-exchanges with senior METI officials
- Opinion-exchanges with Japanese business leaders
- Lectures and opinion-exchanges on Japan
- Visit to related organization, local public organizations and companies
- Field trips: to deepen understanding of the current state of Japan’s industrial economy, as well as the Japanese history and culture.
- A one-night home stay at a Japanese family (optional)
- Receptions
Participants:
- Opinion-leaders influential in policy-making and the formation of public opinion in their own countries as well as junior leaders who are expected to be active opinion-makers.
- For example, politicians, government officials, academics, journalists, directors of economic organizations, business executives, etc.
- Participants should be keen to learn about the current state of Japan (participants who already have much experience of staying in and knowledge on Japan are excluded).
- The program will be conducted entirely in English. Competence in English for communications and discussions is necessary.
- The program will be made up of group activities. Participants are required to act as a group during the program.
- Participants are required to join the whole program apart from exceptional circumstances or unexpected incidents (Please refrain from joining and going off the program halfway).

Monday, September 11 - Saturday, September 16, 2006.
(Accommodations will be reserved for the nights of Sunday, September 10 - Saturday, September 16, 2006)
Place:
Tokyo, Chubu and Kansai areas.
Financial Arrangements:
The organizer of the program will cover the following costs incurred by the program participants:
- A round trip airline ticket (business class by the most direct route) between the airport nearest to the participant's residence and Japan.
- Arrival New Tokyo International Airport (Narita)
- Departure Kansai International Airport (Osaka)
- Accommodations throughout the program
Sunday, September 10 – Saturday, September 16, 2006 (7 nights)
- Perdiem during the program. T
- Transportation fees for the field trip.
The participants will be responsible for the following expenses:
- Transportation fees between the participant's home and the nearest airport.
- Those participants who will return to Tokyo after the visit to Kyoto are required to do so at their own expenses.
- Those participants who will lengthen their stay in Japan to learn more about Japan are required to do so at their own expenses.
- Passport, visa and other travel expenses.
- Other personal expenses (for example, use of telephone, mini bars, laundries, etc in hotels).
