Japan extends assistance in the amount US$ 31,702 for the construction of a classroom

The Government of Japan, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP Programme), signed a grant contract on 22nd August 2005 in the amount of US$ 31,702 (approximately R 198,965.16) with the School Governing Body of St. James (RC) Primary School in the Western Cape for the construction of an additional classroom.

The GGP Programme is designed to assist an eligible organisation, including Non-Governmental Organisations, Community-Based Organisations, Schools, Local Governments, Hospitals and Clinics, etc., in a specific project aimed at directly reaching and immediately benefiting disadvantaged communities at a grassroots level.

Japan strives towards enhancing a positive culture of learning, teaching and service delivery in the education environment. It is commonly agreed that the enhancement of basic education is one of the key factors in promoting sustainable economic and social development. To this effect, primary education is one of the areas in which Japan is keen to assist with a view of contributing to poverty eradication in developing countries.

The Government of Japan hopes that the construction works will commence promptly in order to benefit the educators and learners of St. James (RC) Primary School, and further hopes that the new facilities will provide an environment conducive to effective teaching and learning.

Japan extends assistance in the amount US$ 76,498.00 for the construction of classrooms and toilets

The Government of Japan, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP Programme), is extending financial assistance in the amount of US$ 76,498.00 (approximately R 485,594.00) to the School Governing Body of Banareng Primary School in Atteridgeville for the construction of additional classrooms and toilets.

The GGP Programme is designed to assist an eligible organisation, including Non-Governmental Organisations, Community-Based Organisations, Schools, Local Governments, Hospitals and Clinics, etc., in a specific project aimed at directly reaching and immediately benefiting disadvantaged communities at a grassroots level.

Japan strives towards enhancing a positive culture of learning, teaching and service delivery in the education environment. It is commonly agreed that the enhancement of basic education is one of the key factors in promoting sustainable economic and social development. To this effect, primary education is one of the areas in which Japan is keen to assist with a view of contributing to poverty eradication in developing countries.

This is not the first time that Japan has supported Banareng Primary School. In 2001, the Government of Japan proudly supported the construction of three classrooms and a media centre at the school.

The Grant Contract will be signed at the Embassy of Japan on 19th August 2005 at 11h00 between H.E. Mr. Toshinori Shigeie, Ambassador of Japan, and Mrs. Mmasello Mahwai, Chairperson of the School Governing Body of Banareng Primary School.

The Government of Japan hopes that the construction works will commence promptly in order to benefit the educators and learners of Banareng Primary School, and further hopes that the new facilities will provide an environment conducive to effective teaching and learning.

Japan extends assistance in the amount of US$ 26,921 to the environment and language educational trust for drilling boreholes in the ugu district

The Government of Japan, through its Grant Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme, is extending assistance in the amount of US$ 26,921.00 for the drilling of boreholes in the Ugu District by the Environment and Language Educational Trust. The Project specifically entails the complete installation of pumps in eight schools in this remote of KwaZulu-Natal.

The premises of the eight beneficiary schools will be utilised by unemployed members of the communities, mainly women, to grow and cultivate vegetable gardens. In this way, these community members will acquire skills in producing their own nourishment through the establishment of sustainable gardens, and will be empowered to improve their own living conditions.

It is expected that the boreholes constructed through this project will ensure a constant supply of water to the school gardens so that the continuous production of fresh vegetables is maintained throughout the year for the benefit of the poor communities.

The Grant Contract to this effect will be signed at 14h30 on 25th July 2005 between H.E. Mr. Toshinori Shigeie, Ambassador of Japan and Mr. Mervin Ogle, Director of Environment and Language Educational Trust.

Japan donates classrooms and toilets to Mabafeng primary school in Saulsville

The Government of Japan, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme, extended assistance in the amount of R497,252.47 to the School Governing Body of Mabafeng Primary School for the construction of three additional classrooms and toilets.

The Handover Ceremony of these facilities will take place at Mabafeng Primary School at 10h00 on Saturday, 23rd July 2005. His Excellency, Mr. Toshinori Shigeie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan and officials from the Embassy of Japan will attend the Ceremony.

The GGP Programme, through which many communities in South Africa have benefited, is designed to assist an eligible organisation, including Non-Governmental Organisations, Community-Based Organisations, Schools, Local Governments, Hospitals and Clinics, etc., in a specific project aimed at directly reaching and immediately benefiting disadvantaged communities at a grassroots level.
